    Date:   March 30, 2019, Saturday (weather permitting)

    Time:   10:30AM-1:30PM (optional visit afterwards to Duke’s Counter for drink/snack, or Tidal Basin for cherry blossom viewing if in season)

     

    All CCAA members, families, and friends are welcome.  No fee for this event.

    Meet at 10:30AM at Starbucks, 3000 Connecticut Ave NW, Suite A/B, Washington, DC 20008, across Connecticut Ave from Zoo pedestrian entrance.

    Direction (please see google map attached below): take WMATA Metro Redline to Cleveland Park, then walk south half a mile along Connecticut Ave., or take L2 bus south bound for three stops.

    Or, drive along Conn Ave, turn east into auto entrance (North Road) and park inside the zoo, Lots A/B/C/D/E, limited space, $25 for the day.

    Leisurely stroll through the zoo, 10:30AM-1:00PM

    Anticipated highlights (please see zoo exhibits map attached below): Panda House; Great Ape House/Think Tank (baby gorilla Moke, toddler orangutan Redd; if lucky, we might get to see orangutans traversing on O-Line); Think Tank Keeper Chat (11:30-11:50, demonstration of orangutan’s memory and problem solving skills); Good of the Hive Mural (art work in progress outside Great Ape House and elsewhere); Amazonia (electric eel, rain forest with resident titi monkey Henderson and two-toed sloth Howie), etc.

    Casual lunch at Mane Grill (delicious Angus burger, chicken tender, etc.), 1:00PM-1:30PM.

    Options to be determined after lunch:

    Option 1: take Zoo shuttle bus from Mane Grill back to Panda Plaza, then walk to Connecticut Ave exit.

    Option 2: walk back towards Connecticut Ave exit, visit exhibits along the way; stop at Duke’s Counter for drinks/snacks, 3000 Connecticut Ave NW, Suite J, Washington, DC 20008.

    Option 3: Option 1, then take a side tour of Tidal Basin, if cherry blossom is in season (current forecast: blooming begins April 1, peak April 5).
